Posting display: 2

In the sense of the most correct word, “ස්වභාසමූද්‍ර” reflects the combination of maintenance of life on land and at sea, from growing medicinal gardens that heal the earth to protect marine ecosystems that support biodiversity. This is an initiative by Avenue community service from Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. This realizes a holistic vision in which the community, education, and conservation gather to create a sustainable future for the next generation. With a strong shadow of initiative 1.0, 2.0 attracts inspiration from the achievement of its pioneering. Let’s look at the journey that we take with this initiative.

The project that has an impact and large consists of 4 phases that reflect its comprehensive approach to environmental management.

This phase marks an important milestone and a strong start in our journey to maintain a new generation with natural wisdom. “Building a Drug Park” is the main task of this phase. On August 1524, we succeeded in completing an extraordinary task to plant medicinal plants with schools that participated below,

• Kelani Maha Vidalaya

• Habarakada Junior School

• Hunupitiya Dharmapala Buddhist Elementary School

• Dalupitiya Vidyhachandra Vidalaya

• Sri Sumalawala Maha Videa

Not stopping there, we established a school -based environmental association and encouraged each school to carry out a school -level project that discussed the PBB’s sustainable development objectives. P3K campaigns, art competitions with the theme of environmental conservation, pool construction at the school site, and entrepreneurial efforts to make medicinal oil and mosquito repellent and other medicinal products are several projects carried out by these schools. Ananda College also joined us to replace this initiative.

In this transformative phase that combines education, sustainability, and prosperity. Together, we plant not only gardens but eternal appreciation for the power of healing of nature. With the hope of encouraging our future generations, we have focused on giving awards by choosing the most popular herbal parks, the most sustainable projects and the most creative herbal gardens.

Phasesetoe 1 Nagsuramin Award Ceremony 2.0 Hold at 14Th October, 2024 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Kelaniya University. On that day, we had distributed a letter of meeting with members of the Community Committee. It is the extraordinary end of our 1St. phase.

We do this to strengthen our natural coastline protectors. On December 24, 2024, we succeeded in completing the second phase of our mangrove planting initiative in Kalpitiya, marking other significant steps in our sustainable commitment to environmental conservation. With the collective efforts of our teams and volunteers dedicated, more than 700 mangroves are planted, contribute to the recovery and protection of vital coastal ecosystems. That day was not only about planting trees but also about building connections, sharing smiles, and creating memories that inspire ongoing actions. When we celebrate this meaningful achievement, we are reminded of community strength and goals.

We initiate this phase in response to the increasing need to overcome the problem of electronic waste pressing (E-Waste), which affects many people today. To better understand public awareness about this topic, we do research that focuses on undergraduate students at the University of Kelaniya, which aims to gather their knowledge and attitudes towards electronic waste. Based on the findings and recommendations from our research report, we hold awareness sessions in schools to educate the younger generation. And also, we share a series of videos that highlight what e-Waste is, harmful effects on health and the environment, and practical solutions to fight this threat.

In further efforts to encourage changes that have an impact, we are also involved in pioneering discussions with Infinity Green International (PVT) Ltd. This collaboration is a significant step towards building a sustainable future of electronic waste. Discussions were recorded and shared on Youtube to expand their reach and inspire wider community involvement. The company also provides an electronic trash can for schools, shows their contribution to prevent unnecessary electronic waste disposal.

Like this, we have laid the foundation for the eternal impact. This phase not only empowering individuals with knowledge but also triggers collective actions, parallel to our vision for a cleaner and more greener future.

Phase 04 from Nihindaumurdra 2.0 Focus on sea conservation and coastal cleanliness. As part of our commitment to protect endangered marine life, we actively contribute to turtle conservation efforts Panadurainvolved in Night Patrol for Four days and participate in touching experiences Removing baby turtles back to the sea. Simultaneously, we discuss coastal pollution by Change the trash on the main general beach included Mount Lavinia, Panadura, and Dehiwala, Promotes a cleaner and more sustainable coastal environment.

On May 1St. and 2Nd, Our team extended his conservation mission BatteryWhere we are donated important equipment to support the night patrol operation. In collaboration with BUT Sharewe also distributed rubbish rubbish bin in the Battery Sea Turtle AsylumStrengthening our joint effort in protecting sea habitat. We conclude this phase that has an impact by commemorating our trip Nihindaumurdra with a memorable Night camp at Blue Beach IslandReflecting collective achievements and the way forward.

When we look back on the journey ස්වභාසමූද්‍ර, the most brilliant is not only the impact we make on our environment, but the bonds and memories that we cannot make as the Organizing Committee. From our first planning meeting until the last night of the night under stars, we grew not only as a team but also as a united family. Specifically, our Vice President: RTR. Pabamini Ahangama and Director of Community Service Avenue: RTR. Darshi Chamodya, RTR. Damara Perara and RTR. Ravindu Lakshitha is the backbone of this great impact.

Throughout the term Rotaract, we have proven that with friendship, commitment, and unity, even the wildest dreams can turn into strong movements. ස්වභාසමූද්‍ර 2.0 More than just a project – it is a heart journey that is in harmony with nature, and the celebration of the strengths we find in one another. When we sailed forward, we brought us not only inheritance that we had built but a lifetime friendship that enabled everything.
