Holi, known as the “Color Festival,” is one of the most excited and happy celebrations in India and other parts of the world. This Hindu festival was observed on the day of the full moon in the Hindu month of Phalguna (March), signifying the arrival of spring, the victory of kindness for evil, and strengthening social ties.
This festival is rooted in Hindu mythology, with the most popular legends are Prahlada and Holika. According to the legend, King Hiranyakashipu, who opposed the devotion to Lord Wisnu, tried to kill his son Prahlada because of his unfortunate faith. His brother Holika, who had a gift to remain injured by fire, sat with a burning Prahlada, but due to divine intervention, he perished while Prahlada remained safe. This event symbolizes the victory of kindness for evil and is commemorated through the Holika of Browning, a bonfire ritual performed at night Holi.
The main event of Holi involved people who smeared with each other with colored powder (gulal) and sprinkled water, creating a charming color spectacle. This is the time of laughter, music, and dance, where social barriers are dissolved, and people gather harmoniously. Balloon water, pichkaris (water weapons), and traditional folk songs increase the spirit of festive.
There is no complete festival without food, and Holi is no exception. Special candies such as gadiya (sweet dumplings filled with khoya and nuts), malpua (sweet pancakes), and thandai (seasoned milk drinks) are enjoyed during the celebration. A festive party unites family and friends, adding to the excitement of the opportunity.
Although Holi is mostly celebrated in India and Nepal, its popularity has spread throughout the world. Countries such as the United States, Britain, Canada, and Australia are hosting the Grand Holi event, uniting people from various backgrounds to enjoy the spirit of unity and excitement.
Outside of colors and celebrations, Holi carries a message of love, forgiveness, and in -depth renewal. This is the time to release complaints of the past, embrace new early, and strengthen relationships. This festival encourages inclusiveness, reminding us that happiness is best shared.
