The word at first, but now is a part of my life that has formed who I am. I started my journey with Rotaract in 2023/2024, with Roshan Aiya and Akshana Akka led as president and secretary. To be honest, when I first joined, I didn’t know anything about what Rotaract really was. One of my closest friends has become part of the club, and I want to join just to spend more time with that person. So, I chose the club’s service as my way, I didn’t know that this simple decision would be the beginning of an extraordinary journey.

I still remember the day of orientation, done online. I was in my dormitory place, sat in front of my laptop, listening to people talking about the club, the way, and projects. I remember the past director of the club’s service that said, “Club service is the heart of the club.” It touched me; It made me curious to learn more and be part of something meaningful. Shortly thereafter, the first organizing committee was called for the 13th installation ceremony, the first project of the club service. I applied and was elected as a secretary. But there is a catch – I don’t know anything about documentation. At first it was difficult, but I learned. I was connected to people, finding my first group of friends outside of my department, and slowly began to understand what it means to be part of something bigger than me. I learned how to write the right letter, report craft project reports, understand the purpose of documentation, and, most importantly, how to deal with people and complete something – even if it sometimes means argument and misunderstanding. Together, we make it happen, and the feeling of achievement is unmatched.

The next project, Christinzel’23, a Christmas project, saw me stepping into the role of the event coordinator and logistics. This time, I learned how to plan a project from A to Z – what needs to be collected, how to continue, and how to overcome the challenges when they come. Slowly but surely, Rotaract built me - removing my personality, planning skills, and leadership quality.

Next is Rota Wasantha Udanaya, where I work again as an event and logistics coordinator. But I can’t just limit myself to my role. I support every end of the project because I have a goal – for one day to be a leader at the club and handle the project independently. My passion grew stronger with every experience.

Then there is a beautiful Diwali project – collaboration with Kandy Club. This project allows me to connect with people outside our club, expanding my network and perspective. In the last quarter of this year, I was elected as a team leader for relations members. This is my opportunity to learn other paths and develop further leadership. I have the responsibility of handling Rota tomorrow, one of the biggest events we have. It was challenging, but our team delivered one of the best events with efforts and unity merely.

My hard work and dedication paid off. With the beginning of my second year, I achieved something that I had dreamed of being appointed as a co-director of the regional involvement of the Rotaract Club for the term 2024/2025. That day, during the installation ceremony, when my name was announced, I felt a wave of pride and gratitude. This is my club to pay the hard work and passion that I pour into every project. With a new position a new responsibility comes. This is the year I learned homework jobs, something I never thought would do. Designing and handling public relations for Avenue I added other skills to my set. Under my director Ishini and me, we managed to complete four new projects: Edu Bridge, Coast Guard, Jingle Joyland, and Haritha Siripa. Everything was initiated this year and became a successful milestone. Among them, Haritha Firipa is a big project that we proud to have pioneered. I believe this will be a lasting project for the next generation of leaders.

I also have the opportunity to guide the team in the Rota Tomorrow competition. Through Agro Acres, we created something special, something that made me very proud of my team and the work we did together.

And now, with only one project remaining – Pihawara – I feel achievements. I have got countless friends from various clubs, communities, universities, and even different districts. Rotaract is more than just a club for me; It is a family, a place where I grow, learn, and change. When I pondered my journey, I forever thanked Rotaract. It made me a stronger, more skilled, and confident leader. It even helped me during my first job interview – the experience and skills that I got were very valuable.

I want to thank RTR. Gangadar, who first invited me to this beautiful family. To RTR. Roshan Rathnayake and RTR. Akshana Wikramasinghe because he believed in me, to RTR. Climbed by Nikagoda and RTR. Janali for supporting me during my time as a team leader, and to our RTR president. Vihanga Divyanjana for trusting me became part of the board of directors. Thank you specifically to my director’s college. Ishini Fernando and Ovellooking Exco RTR. Dinithi Thilakarathne because it became my stone throughout this trip.

And of course, for the most valuable person in my life – thank you for being there for me.

Rotaract gave me a goal, a platform for growing, and the memories that I would appreciate forever. For that, I am grateful without stopping.

Rotaract’s life!
