From the time I received university acceptance, I knew one thing: I wanted to dive first into the extracurricular. My school days are not filled with them, and I am determined to make up for it, to really give everything and get an priceless experience. So, even before stepping to campus, I have followed every university club and organization on Facebook, wanting to explore.

My first year at the university was a quail. I joined every club that can be imagined, and among them is the Rotaract Club. As a student at the Humanities Faculty, I joined during the second intake. I chose international services as my main path, and for my technical path, I chose an editorial relationship and member.

My first physical interaction with Rotaract was the August Monthly General Meeting. I went with a friend of a friend, not knowing someone else at all. I feel very alone and don’t want to run away. And I did it. While everyone plans to tiktok, I secretly sneak away from the uncomfortable situation.

But my goal is to be complete at the university. I focus on what I can do virtually, especially on the editorial road. As a student study of translation and an excited writer, I believe the editorial is suitable. So, I joined the translation team “Chronicle,” I didn’t even know what “Chronicle” was at that time.

Then in 2023, the leaflet attracted my attention: Application for the Research Organizing Committee from the Village Development Project in Giribawa. Not aware of the in -depth transformation that will be brought by this application, I apply. Soon after, I was chosen as a member of research for the agricultural sector.

This marks the actual beginning of my Rotaract trip. Field visit to the village of Giribawa, where I met with my fellow OC Members of my research, was a truly extraordinary experience. After the research phase, the main project; Ignite Sri Lanka focused on the implementation of our solution, starting. I was appointed as an editor. Even though it was a small role in such a big business, it taught me a large number of me, especially about the task of the editor. Meanwhile, I also contributed to several other projects, including Merryzoomas, The Career Fair, and Rotathomorrow projects.

When the council application was opened for 2024-25, I did not aim at the position of Director Avenue. However, the idea of becoming an editor (editorial director of Avenue) is very in harmony with me; Write really “my business.” So, I only apply to the position of the co-editor. And yes, I was chosen! (Thank you my dear friend, Lihini for motivating the interview, when I was ready to surrender)

Since then, my life was filled with letters, project proposals, information, blogs, magazines, and everything written in the club. Especially, I buried myself in the project “Writing Labyrin 2.0.”

Then, “Rotathomorrow 5.0” becomes the game changer. The decision to become a mentor for rotatomorrow is not easy, but I am very happy I succeed. The “සිහින පියාසර පියාසර” project is the initiative that we built under the Rotatomorrow 5.0 competition. It gave me the opportunity to experiment with my leadership skills and establish a strong bond with my dear “pinnaclers”.

Last year, I couldn’t even attend the Rotatomorrow award ceremony for various reasons. But now, I can proudly say that I am a mentor of the Rotatomorrow 5.0 winning team, securing a total of 13 awards, including “The Most Extraordinary Mentor Award.” I am truly grateful to everyone who supports me on this trip. I have the best team and the best team leader. Thank you sincere to Chamodi, Nuvindya, and my entire team. And thank you very much for Himas, Sanduni and Kaweesha for your guidance and support for me during the rotatomorrow period.

I also want to thank the deepest gratitude to the Aiya Vihanga, Wikihi Akka, Dinithi Akka, and Dimithri Akka, who was the first person to bring me into a project. You are a truly inspiring leader who motivates me to become a better leader alone. And Pavani Akka, thank you for showing the right path and brought all my chaos.

Thank you very much for the Aiya Vihanga, Adeesha Aiya, and Roshan Aiya for believing in me and appointed me as a co-editor.

For my dear senior editor, Sapna Akka, you are the backbone of the Avenue editorial. You are the sweetest and best guide I have ever had. And Delishia, who guided us from the Executive Committee, your understanding and flexible nature loosened our busy lives a thousand times. And my dear co-editor, Dilu Akka and Janoo, have you two by my side is really a blessing.

To the director, team leader, and OC members from the road that I watched as an editor, thank you for your unwavering support. I will really miss your message and call asking “Onee’s approval.”

Thank you very much to the Director of DM, Avishna and Mahen, for patiently using all the requests for my chaotic leaflets. And thank you very much to the Avenue, especially Amali and Chenuri, for experiencing my chaos.

And for all the extraordinary people that I encountered on this trip, I was really grateful for each of you.

It is very bitter to say goodbye in this extraordinary year of RI 2024-25, which gave me so many opportunities to soar. But this is a happy separation, filled with extraordinary satisfaction.

Rotaract’s life!
