Rotaract Journey of RTR. Vandana Airport

My trip with the Rotaract Club from the University of Kelaniya began during my first year at the university. I was inspired to join a number of friends, though, at that time, I didn’t know what Rotaract really was. But since when I became part of this family, my path began to change. I began to understand the spirit of service, leadership, and most importantly, the strength of the team’s work.

Initially, I joined the Avenue Club Service, which helped me stay and began to contribute. But soon, I found myself naturally interested in information and technology Avenue and Digital Media Avenue, driven by my deep desire for technology and creativity.

My first project was a district -level collaboration called Peaanam, where we worked with three other clubs: Rotaract KDU clubs, NSBM, and Kandy. The project celebrates four major religious festivals in Sri Lanka, promoting unity and cultural harmony. I was honored to be an editor for the Deepawali celebration, which we set together with the Rotaract Club of Kandy. I must specifically mention that Lanka Akki and Daran Aiya, our extraordinary director, guided and supported me throughout. The experience taught me many things about project planning, responsibilities, and working with various teams.

Next, I took part in ludicon, a game competition organized by IT Avenue. This time, I took the role of coordinator of an external relations, which gave me valuable exposure in handling partnerships and sponsors.

Another important milestone in my first year was to serve as Secretary of the Rotaract Avurudu celebration. The project holds a special place in my heart as the most meaningful and pleasant event that I contributed during my first year.

I am also involved in other impact projects such as Ignite Sri Lanka 1.0, the celebration of Peaanam Vesak, and contributing to Avenue Media Digital by creating leaflets and designs for various events. As long as all of these projects, I am fortunate to have the support and friendship of my own university friends. They are not just teammates – they are a circle in me, making it cold, fun, and unforgettable every time.

In my second year, I was honored to be appointed as a co-sign of the path of information and technologies in the main journey of my Rotaract. This leadership role gives me the opportunity to create, innovate, and lead some of the most meaningful initiatives on our way.

One of the most proud achievements of my time as co-sutradara led the Edu කේත project, an initiative of the signature of IT Avenue which was designed to bridge digital inequality throughout Sri Lanka. This project is implemented in three phases that have an impact.

TechXPO-Large-Scale Pameran which features technological innovations, which are held in collaboration with several university technology clubs. ICT A/L Island ICT-Kami Seminar Series held a series of seminars in Sinhala, Tamil, and British medium for deaf tune education

In one of the most touching phases of the phase, we run a six-month-to-be-class ICT course for students at Rathmalana Deaf School, teaching important digital skills and empowering them through inclusive education.

Edu Family – Our Organizing Committee – is the most committed and loving team that has worked with me. Their energy and dedication makes every challenge easier and every milestone is meaningful.

I want to thank Gimhan Aiya, my fellow director, for his extraordinary support and constant guidance. He is the technical mastermind behind Avenue, and working with him has become a learning experience in every step. Also, a big scream for Sachinthani, our Exco Members are the most talking (and most helpful!) – Thank you for always having our backs and keeping our enthusiasm high!

And finally, I could not end this without grateful to my best friend, who had been with me through every high and low trip of this trip. Thank you for holding all my stress, standing by my side through every challenge, and sharing every time – your presence makes all the differences.

Looking back, Rotaract has given me more than I have ever expected. That’s where I found my desire, my people, and my goal. It changes the first strange year students into confident individuals, ready to serve and lead.

For anyone who thinks of joining Rotaract – just do it. You don’t need to know everything from the first day. Just appear, open to learning, and give the best. Because in Rotaract, you are not just building projects – you build yourself.
