Malini Fonseka, lovingly praised as “Queen Sinema Sinhala,” died on May 24, 2025, at the age of 78, while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo. The passing marks the end of the era in Sri Lanka’s art and culture.

Born on April 30, 1947, in Kelaniya, Malini Senehalatha Fonseka began her artistic journey through theater before switching to the film. He made his cinematic debut in 1968 with Punchi Baba and continued to star in more than 150 films, including classics such as Nidhanaya, Bambaru Awith, Thushara, and Wekande though. His appearance received many awards, such as some of the best actress awards Sarasaviya and national honor when Keerthi.

Outside the silver screen, he served as a member of parliament from 2010 to 2015, reflecting his commitment to public services. His contribution to the cinema was recognized internationally when CNN named him among the 25 greatest film actors in Asia of all time in 2010.

Malini Foneka’s legacy surpassed her filmography, she was Suar Rahmat, Talent, and Dedication. The impact on Sri Lanka cinema and culture will continue to inspire future generations.
