I started my Rotaract journey as a member of the prospect. And since then, there has been a big story to tell. Rotaract Club is the main part of my university’s life where I find a family full of big-hearted friends. They are like brothers and sisters for me. Memories made in the club are very special and will remain with me forever.
I will always thank Wickshi Kalani Akka for giving me the opportunity to join as a member of the prospect. I started my journey with the Adaren Waruwak project. When I joined the project, I didn’t know anything about Rotaract. The only thing I know is that I have to make the needed video material. In addition, I don’t know anything about the club or the procedure. Then, in the third phase of Adaren Waruwak, I met the Ayya Vihanga, Vice President at the time. That was also the first time I met RTR. Jayasooriya Kusal, who later became one of my closest friends at the club. Vihaga Ayya invited me to join the Abhiman Project as PR coordinator.
After that, I had the opportunity to work at the Rota Tomorrow Executive Committee. It was a challenging task, but I was sure I gave my best. I have to thank Disandi Akka and RTR. Thanuj Abeyrathne for giving me a chance and guiding me through that trip. I especially want to say something about Thanuj he is the closest person to me at the club. A great man with so many talents.
Then came Ignite Sri Lanka 1.0, where I first volunteered as the PR coordinator and was then appointed as the team coordinator for the education sector. When I came to Ignite, I had to talk about Avenue Community Service, it was still the most like that. Ignite brought me a lot of beautiful memories. I met many big -hearted friends and gathered countless experiences. After that, I worked on the Swaba Firipa project, and it wrapped my journey for the term 2023/24.
I also have to mention Roshan Rathnayake Ayya. I met him during the Ignite Sri Lanka project, and he became a role model on my Rotaract journey. I learned a lot of things by just observing how he worked and handled the situation. He is one of the people who is the most humble and full of feelings I have ever met.
After that term, I applied to the Board of Directors for the term 2024/25 and was chosen as the Avenue Digital Media Co-Director, where the new chapter on my trip began.
At first, I wasn’t sure DM was suitable for me. I am not the type of person who likes to sit for hours of making leaflets or videos. But then I realized that I could do the job while continuing my desire. At DM Avenue, I have to talk about Delishia and Avishna. Without Delishia’s unwavering support, I would not be able to do my part. He gave him 100% and helped build the environment where work flowed smoothly. And Avishna, she is a creative soul with a taste like mine. When we are together, it is always full of laughter and excitement.
At DM, I came with the concept of building a media unit for the club. It leads to the initiation of the MediaSpark Project. It’s not full success, but I’m sure we put the basis for something that is very useful for the future of the club. As they said, failure is the best way to learn, and I really learn a lot from that experience.
Besides DM, I believe I give the best for the club, and the club gives me more. For me, the club is not just a club, it is a place where I can escape from my problem, a place where I find peace and happiness. I got a lot of things and even met the most valuable people in my life because of the club.
I did everything I could for the success of the club and support my fellow director as best I could. In return, I received support that could not be explained by words. There are so many unforgettable memories behind every project initiated by the club.
Then, I had the opportunity to guide the team in the Rota Tomorrow competition. That is a valuable opportunity to prove themselves through the Evolvex project. I think we do something special. I have to thank the team leaders and the entire organizational committee for their hard work and support.
And if I have to say something about Ayya’s temple, he is not only the club president to me. When I first met him, I didn’t even know he was a VP. He is very humble and friendly. Since then, he has helped me with problems related to the club and personal. Thank you for everything, Ayya. And to Adeesha Ayya, thank you for the guidance. Without you, the club will not reach this height.
So that is my journey, a journey full of ups and downs but not regret. I will never forget how I started, who gave me the urge to start, and all the extraordinary people stand beside me.
Most importantly, people around me are members of the Executive Committee, my fellow board members thank you. I am forever grateful for this family and the eternal memories that we made. To all team leaders, thank you for your support. I hope I can mention all of you by name.
Once again, what I have to say is thank you and I am forever grateful. VIVA La Rotaract!
