Sometimes, the most beautiful chapters in our lives begin with the most unplanned choices. For me, joining Rotaract is one of them, the decision I made for the will as a first year student who was curious to try something new, without really knowing what I was doing.

I don’t know what to expect. But something about it feels right, like the beginning of something special. And now, looking back, I can say wholeheartedly, it is one of the best choices I have ever made.

So, at first I felt very lost. I missed the orientation, and I joined the Avenue Community Service, because it was the only thing that sounded familiar. The Avenue called OC for their first project, and I spontaneously applied as an editor, thinking “Okay, let’s start from the small.” And that is something that feels can be done.

I wrote my first title for the leaflet, and a little I knew that one information would be the beginning of something much bigger. Slowly, I began to say yes for more. Information changes into articles, the project turns into desire. What makes it more special is the encouragement, patience, and warm guidance that I received from my director, RTR. Wickshi Akka, Rtr. Dimithri Akka and RTR. Dinithi Akka, and fellow members at the time.

Finally, I became an editor for almost all community service projects during the term of office, and then, the secretary for the project to turn on SL. I like being behind the scenes, writing, observing, and soaking in every small moment. Contributing to meaningful initiatives that help shape the club’s identity feels very satisfying.

One of the most special milestones is appointed as a co-editor for the term 2024-25. From someone who never even know what the meaning of being an editor, to help lead the team, it feels like a full circle moment.

That’s when I officially became part of the editorial team. I started working under one of the best and most patient senior editors, a former member who was very supportive, and with fellow co-editors who became more than just a teammate. I am glad I have to be a part of a team that is so beautiful because we always have their backs with each other, whatever happens and that really feels like brotherhood.

And not only our team, the whole year’s council was filled with the most extraordinary people. Sweet, supportive and truly inspiring people who make every effort feel valuable. Since day 01, I am amazed at the leaders and members around me. Their encouragement, kindness, and authenticity made Rotaract feel like at home.

One of the most valued highlights during this term is working on the writing of Maze 2.0, our Avenue editorial soul project. Do not believe we did it, and nothing might happen without extraordinary support and guidance from our secretary, RTR. Adeesha Ayya, and our President, RTR. Ayya’s vision, who believes in us in every step.

And then came RT 5.0, where I stepped into the role of a mentor. To be honest, I never thought I was ready to guide anyone. But guiding a group of new juniors reminded me how far I would come. I saw myself in it, curious, confused, excited, and full of potential. Watching them growing and taking their own way feels like the biggest gift.

This trip gives me so many “first”, and so many “forever.” My first leaflet writing, my first team meeting, my first Rotaract project. And the memories? They are forever.

But the best part of all of them are people. Souls like the gems that I have to share this trip. What makes it more special is seeing the same friends as me starting this trip by growing with me. There are different types of excitement in watching each other blooming, and being a cheerleader with each other along the way.

To the people I started this trip and everyone I met along the way, thank you. You have inspired me more than words that can be spoken. And for Rotaract, thank you. For laughter, lessons, group photos, milestones that we celebrate, and the types of memories that I will carry for a lifetime.

You make my university’s life richer, brighter, and far more meaningful.

Grateful and blessed!
